Cash Lovell Stables Barn News

Cash Lovell Stables has finished up the year with incredible memories from 2010! Fun shows, riding clinics, youth club activities, pony rides, parties, and much, more come to mind as we reflect upon all the things we are thankful for.

At the World’s Championship Horse Show, some riders hit the green shavings for the first time and some were seasoned pros!  Congratulations to Stella McAuley and CH Audrey Hepburn, Cashlyn Lovell and CH Aces & Eights, Caroline Anderson and Philosopher, Catie Hawley and Ms. Betty Grable, Jake Butts and Dance On The Inside (catch-riding for Suzi Shiflet), Sarah Martin and CH Hayden Fox, Emily McKay and Out Of Reach and Lindsay Jones and Majestic’s Wingmaster.  We are delighted to say that two Reserve World Champion Titles and many WCHS ribbons of all colors now belong to these incredible young riders!  We couldn’t be prouder!!

Twelve of our Academy members spent Halloween weekend competing against the best of the best at the National Academy Championship Finals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Moms, Dads, brothers and sisters cheered on our 2010 Academy Nationals Team to 17 Championship and Reserve Championship Titles — the most  CLS has ever won!  Our 2010 National Academy Championship Team included Penny Martin, Terra Johns, Jozy Unal, Sadie McAuley, Margret Bassett, Bella Wiese, Elizabeth Stewart, Avery Rose McKutchen, Adriana Peacock, Felicia Elliott, Emily Stokes, and Merrick Semans — all coached by our amazing instructors  Jeanine Lovell, Kathryn Rodosky and Sondra Hodgson.  On September 25th, our Little Bits Annual Fall Fun Charity Horse Show was a HUGE success!  It was held at our Winston-Salem location –  and with over 100 entries it was the largest Fun Show we have ever organized!  Every single one of our adorable riders earned top ribbons, cheered on their teammates, hula hooped, ate tons of food from our concession stand and were the first to meet Cash Lovell Stables’ “glamorous” new mascot…Miss Lovellina!  To top it off, Jake Butts had a grand ol’ time showing off his brand new 5-Gaited horse, “I’m Good” that his grandmother, Sharon Anderson, recently purchased for him.   To the delight of the crowd, Jake showcased the talents of this fine American Saddlebred by trotting, cantering, slow-gaiting and racking up and down the rail.  Congratulations, Jake!  We are all looking forward to seeing the two of you together in the ring again this spring!

The proudest moment of  our Charity Fun Show was when our Little Bits Youth Club was able to present the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a check for $6,000 — enough to make a child’s wish come true!   This was a lofty goal, but our young riders worked hard to raise funds by doing such things as setting up beverage stands, mowing lawns, babysitting, washing cars and selling handmade jewelry.  As Ms. Parker stated at the show, “To each of you who worked on behalf of the Little Bits and Make-A-Wish, I am truly thankful to you.  Because of you, our children are learning to count their blessings, and BE blessings.  What an amazing legacy for us all.”

Our youth club participated in another community service project this winter, The Festival of Trees.  Between CLS’s raffle donations and a beautifully adorned Christmas tree we raised almost $900.00 for Wake Forest University’s Brenners Children’s Hospital!  Our theme this year was “A Saddlebred Stampede!” At our November Lovell’s Little Bits meeting over 50 children helped CLS Barn Mom Emily Semans create hundreds of gorgeous handmade ornaments.  Bright colors, beautiful decorations and a high bidder made our tree one of the first to be sold!

Cash Lovell Stables’ Annual Holiday Party had a turn-out of over 600 family and  friends.  Mechanical bulls, a country style breakfast, arts and crafts, dancing and a huge bouncy inflatable made it a enjoyable time for everyone.  Speeches were made, our 2010 Academy Nationals Team was recognized, numerous awards were presented.

At the end of the party, Steve and Danielle Peacock  gave their adorable daughter a Christmas present she will never forget.  Amidst tears of joy and flashing cameras, the infamous CH Holy Fruit Salad entered the party with a huge silver and green bow around his neck — and was passed on to his new owner Adriana Peacock.

Another fan-favorite, CH Aces and Eights, was paired up with his new equitation academy star, Jozy Unal, in January.  Jozy’s  parents, John and Medge, and the whole CLS Barn Family are looking forward to seeing the two of them together in the ring  this show season!

Cash Lovell Stables Barn News

Cash Lovell Stables has had an extremely busy spring and summer! Between horse shows, summer camps and community service programs the summer flew right by!

This spring and summer we volunteered our time and service to help local and national organizations in our community. We started off by participating in the Ronald McDonald House “Sport A Shirt, Share A Night” program. T-Shirts were sold at the barn to benefit the Ronald McDonald Houses of North Carolina. All proceeds from this fundraiser were used to provide food, shelter and comfort for families that need a “home away from home” while their child is being treated at local hospitals.

Little Bits Youth Club members also volunteered their time and energy at The Children’s Home of Winston-Salem. Their barnyard looked new again after our team spent the afternoon raking, sweeping, grooming and cleaning tack. When everything was done, the children especially enjoyed spending time with the animals that live on the farm.

On the national front, CLS partnered with the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure. With the assistance of Little Bit mom and cancer survivor, Sonya Marion, we organized a team to benefit this very important cause. Our barn family walked, jogged and ran the 5K race together to raise over $5,000 for cancer research and education!

We are also happy to announce a special partnership we have made with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The local foundation coordinator attended our Make-A-Wish Fundraiser Meeting with a very special

Make-A-Wish recipient and her family. After pizza and cake, a presentation was given and we set our fundraising goal of at least $6,000. CLS riders have been setting up lemonade stands, selling handmade jewelry, washing cars and mowing lawns in an effort to meet this goal. With hard work and determination we are certain that our Youth Club will be able to make a child’s wish come true!

In May, we started off the show season with a fun show of our very own! This year, to help kick off Cash Lovell Stables’ second riding academy location in Oak Ridge, NC, our Annual Spring Charity Fun Show was held in conjunction with the Oak Ridge Easter Horse Show. Johnny Lucas Stables and Mystic View Stables joined forces with CLS, and more than 80 entries enjoyed a fabulous fun show. In one afternoon, CLS earned a whopping $3,500 for charity! Special thanks to our judge Steve Hanks, announcer Wallace Williamson and ring master Susan Williamson.

After an eight-year hiatus the Tanglewood Cup Steeplechase was in town again, and Cash Lovell Stables had a grand time supporting their return! Fanciful hats, gourmet food and beautiful thoroughbred horses made it an afternoon to remember. In fact, we had such a good time together that our barn moms are already planning the festivities for next year’s party!

As always, our summer horse camps were huge, hot and wonderful!! Little Tots, Beginner/Intermediate Camps and Overnight Advanced Rider Camps were week-long adventures that included riding lessons galore, driving lessons, educational talks, special guests and of course water fun in the afternoons to cool off from the summer heat! During our advanced camp, CLS explored the exciting sport of equestrian vaulting – and has since formed a CLS Vaulting Team! Special thanks to Cindy Mugnier, president of the American Morgan Horse Association and a renowned trainer and judge, who was a guest instructor at CLS for our Advanced Rider Camp.

Our Assistant Trainer and much-loved instructor Sondra Hodgson has been selected to receive the ASHA Scholarship this year! In addition to working at the barn, she is a full-time student at Salem College here in Winston-Salem. With  outstanding grades, a bubbly personality and strong work ethic she is a wonderful role model for all of our young riders.

Academy and Show Riders have spent the rest of the spring and summer training and competing in many of the wonderful horse shows here in the Carolinas…Asheville Spring, Asheville Lions, Raleigh Spring Premiere, Blowing Rock, Charlotte Charity, Dallas Summer Classic and the Blue Ridge Classic. While at the shows, ASAC President and long-time Little Bit, Lauren Riggens has encouraged our youngsters to support the ASAC Youth Club by participating in Junior Judging events, selling and buying ASAC t-shirts, donating items for auction and taking part in the ever popular “pig toss” and “flamingo flocking” programs. Our riders are now gearing up for the World’s Championship Horse Show and Academy Nationals to be held this fall.

Congratulations to Emily McKay, and parents Jeff and Leigh-Ann McKay, on the purchase of their new 5-Gaited Pleasure Horse, Out of Reach. Best wishes and luck to the ASAC family. We’ll see you on the rail!
