The Carolina cup Equitation Championship premiered at this years North Carolina State Championship Horse Show. This unique class required riders to qualify by competing in at least six Equitation Classes in the Carolinas during the 2012 season.
The unique part is that by competing in the Carolina Cup Equitation Championship, the riders were then eligible to compete for the position of Equitation Ambassador of the Carolinas – 2013. This position is awarded a $500. Scholarship and opportunities to represent Equitation to the public.
Competition did not end in the ring. Directly after the class these riders – Haley Griffin ~ Lenux Stables , Jessi McCurry, Carey Cosgrove, ~ Harrison Shiflet Stables , and Hannah Champion ~ Ingleside Farm, still wearing their riding habits, made their way to the concourse, took the written test, then individually met with the panel of John Whalen, Julia Joyce, and David Cater for their interviews. A 100 point scale was used to decide the winner who would wear the title of Equitation Ambassador of the Carolinas – 2013. (45 points Horsemanship, 45 points Interview, and 10 points Written Test). The interviewing panel was very impressed with the confidence and personality of each rider.
Winning the first ASAC Equitation Ambassador position for 2013 is Haley Griffin. This new program is the brain child of Beverly Shiflet and the stated purpose is promoting Equitation in the Carolinas ~ Equitation ~ “It’s Not Only A Look, It’s A Skill” !
