Message From The President

by admin on February 19, 2009

During the last weekend of January the Embassy Suites in Concord was again host to our annual convention.  Despite the struggling economy, turnout was impressive as members participated in Friday night’s auction or Youth Mardi Gras party, attended Saturday’s membership meetings (both adult and youth), took part in informative round-table sessions or raced around at the Speedpark.  Then, on Saturday night, over 500  attended the awards banquet.  Congratulations to all of the Saturday night award winners and thanks to those who worked so hard to make it a successful event!

Sincerely,

Ted Foreman

At the January Board of Directors meeting, the board approved the following high point divisions:

1. Five Gaited Pleasure will now be divided into Adult Five Gaited Pleasure and Juvenile Five Gaited  Pleasure.

2.  AOT classes will be divided into Country Pleasure AOT and Show Pleasure AOT.

Please be sure to make these designations when sending in your nominations.

Youth Update

by admin on February 19, 2009

The 2009 ASAC Youth Convention was, by definition, incredible!  The weekend began with a Mardi Gras-themed party on Friday night. The evening started off with a little bit of shyness in the air but, by the end of the festivities, everyone was dancing together and competing in the horse-less horse show. The next day, the Youth ventured to the NASCAR Speedpark for a little experience behind the wheel of the go-carts. The Speedpark offered other areas of interest such as Laser-Tag, putt-putt, wall-climbing and arcade games.  Everyone looked absolutely stunning Saturday night as awards were given out.  Congratulations to everyone for their well-deserved awards Saturday afternoon and evening!

As ASAC Youth President, I am so very anxious for the 2009 season! I am honored to be working with Katie Morrison as Vice President, Anna Stoddard as Secretary and Lauren Riggins as Historian.  Our first Youth Board of Directors meeting is February 22nd so details of Youth activities for show season are coming soon.

AOT Corner…February

AOT Corner…February

As we move forward into 2009 and a new show season is right on our heels, I’d like to take this moment to reflect back on the past few years. We’ve come along way from only having a few AOT classes offered here and there, to nearly every show now with as least two qualifying classes and some offering AOT Championships. For the past two years the club has sponsored every AOT class offered in the Carolina’s and we will be able to do the same for 2009. We have seen our AOT members step up and go the extra mile in support of ASAC events and functions. If there is something that needs to be done, the AOT’s aren’t shy about offering a hand.

We’re a hard working, determined group, and still have a lot of hard work ahead of us. With the formation of an AOT Committee, through the ASHA Charter Club Council, we will be able to make strides toward avenues of communication throughout each region, set in motion the foundation for USEF/ASHA recognized AOT guidelines, and see the formation of new AOT clubs.

New for 2009 is the formation of an AOT Logo Committee. We already have a few good designs and ideas and still have the designs submitted from two years back. We should have the funding this year to move forward with an ASAC AOT logo and hope to have it ready for display on hats, t-shirts, and saddle pads by the end of the year. We welcome any and all ideas. Also, we are actively putting together an AOT Scrapbook. We need to capture our history and would appreciate any pictures from the past few years that you would like included (AOT functions, clinics, show pictures, around the barn, etc…).

I’m very proud to be apart of this group of folks from the Carolina’s.  Whether AOT or ASAC member/supporter, we all have the same love and compassion for our breed and want to see it continue to grow for generations to come.

Looking forward to another year of fun and fellowship with friends!

Pam Quick
